UK Opens £9.5m Digital Inclusion Fund for Community-Led Tech Initiatives

It aims to connect millions who are offline or lack basic digital skills through tailored community projects

Overview

  • Local authorities, charities, combined authorities and research organisations in England can apply for grants ranging from £25,000 to £500,000 to fund device-donation schemes, skills workshops and other community-led initiatives.
  • Devolved administrations will manage their shares in 2025–26, with Scotland receiving £764,020, Wales £400,368 and Northern Ireland £267,249 for locally tailored projects.
  • Funding decisions in England will be based on merit as determined by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, which is aiming to support projects in all nine regions.
  • The initiative targets those most at risk of exclusion, including older people, low-income households, disabled residents, jobseekers and young people not in education, employment or training.
  • The fund builds on the government’s Digital Inclusion Action Plan and the IT Reuse for Good charter, including a pilot to repurpose Whitehall laptops for people in need.
