Overview

  • The six named locations are Comeytrowe (Orchard Grove) in Somerset, Wisley Airfield in Guildford, North Leigh Park in Wigan, Hampden Fields in Aylesbury, Billet Road in Redbridge, and High Road West in Haringey.
  • Officials say the New Homes Accelerator will speed delivery of more than 12,000 homes across these sites with at least 25% affordable housing.
  • The Department reports 36,000 homes already sped up and planning proposals advanced for a further 63,000 across England.
  • The announcement did not provide a site-by-site breakdown of the 12,000 homes, including the number planned at North Leigh Park in Wigan.
  • London Mayor Sadiq Khan welcomed the push to unblock housebuilding, while ministers point to planning changes proposed in May to reduce delays in approvals.
