UK Names Nearly 500 Employers for Minimum Wage Breaches as 42,000 Workers Repaid and Fines Hit £10.2m

  • The Department for Business & Trade published the latest naming list on October 17 as part of the government’s Plan to Make Work Pay following April’s minimum wage increases.
  • Genting Casinos UK Limited, based at Birmingham’s StarCity, topped the list after underpaying £303,936.69 to 1,583 workers.
  • In the West Midlands, about 5,000 workers were repaid more than £600,000 with fines exceeding £1 million for local employers.
  • Coventry City Council said a delay updating apprentice pay rates led to underpayments for five staff, which it reports have been corrected with arrears paid.
  • Local tallies included two Oxford employers owing £3,692 to three workers and four Buckinghamshire firms underpaying a combined total of over £10,500, with workers directed to gov.uk/checkyourpay and Acas for guidance.
