Overview
- Leicestershire’s M1 was shut in both directions between J20 and J21 after a serious collision, with an air ambulance on scene; the southbound carriageway has reopened but the northbound remains closed for investigation and traffic is following diversion routes.
- Police said the M1 crash involved a blue BMW 5 Series and a red Ford Mondeo, with the BMW then leaving the carriageway and hitting a tree; the BMW driver was taken to hospital and no injuries were reported from the Mondeo.
- In Surrey, the M25 anticlockwise near J8 Reigate saw traffic held after a collision involving a lorry and cars around 7am; one person went to hospital as a precaution and all lanes were open by 8.40am with residual delays.
- Greater Manchester’s M61 southbound between J4 and J3 reopened after a multi-vehicle collision during the morning peak; Greater Manchester Police reported no serious injuries and no hospitalisations.
- Earlier incidents under probe include the M62 eastbound near J32, where a 21-year-old driver suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries in an overnight single-vehicle crash now cleared, and a previous M25 HGV fire in Surrey that led to a full anti-clockwise closure before reopening.
