Overview

• The scheme is led by Natural England, the National Trust and the National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with environmental agencies across the UK
• Birmingham has been designated the UK’s first Nature City, while Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole together earn the inaugural Nature Towns status
• Local councils and community groups will co-design projects such as pocket parks, wildflower meadows and expanded street tree planting
• Pilot programmes include a Bristol greening-permit scheme allowing public cultivation of shared spaces and a North Lanarkshire environmental justice map to identify priority areas
• Partners aim to mobilise £1 billion in public, private and philanthropic investment by 2035 to extend nature recovery across 100 towns and cities
