UK Launches £5 Billion 'Pride in Place' to Regenerate 339 Neighbourhoods

Local residents will control spending through neighbourhood boards, with new powers to buy assets or block unwanted shops.

Overview

  • A total of 169 areas will receive £2 million each year for a decade, 95 areas get an immediate £1.5 million impact grant, and the plan scales up funding already in place for 75 locations.
  • Communities gain a Community Right to Buy and stronger compulsory purchase powers, while councils can restrict new betting, vape and so‑called fake barber outlets.
  • Spending will only be approved where Pride in Place boards demonstrate genuine engagement with community groups, local organisations and residents.
  • The programme spans England, Scotland and Wales with corresponding funding for Northern Ireland, with delivery to be co-designed with devolved governments.
  • Government published the full list of 339 target neighbourhoods and regional totals, with local reports noting allocations such as £269 million for the North East.
