UK Landmarks and Hospitals Light Up Pink and Blue for Baby Loss Awareness Week

The campaign urges open conversation to honor babies lost, connecting families with bereavement support.

Overview

  • Baby Loss Awareness Week runs from October 9 to 15, concluding with the global Wave of Light candle lighting at 7pm on October 15.
  • NHS Lanarkshire confirmed its three acute hospitals are illuminated in pink and blue to show solidarity with bereaved parents and to encourage conversation.
  • South Lanarkshire Council is hosting a public ribbon tribute outside its Hamilton headquarters, led by Councillor Lynsey Hamilton to raise awareness and remembrance.
  • Across the North East, sites including Newport Bridge, Spennymoor, and Stockton are lit up, while Burnley’s Women’s and Newborn Centre is also illuminated and will host a Wave of Light gathering.
  • Organizers highlight ONS figures showing more than 4,000 baby deaths annually in the UK (around 13 per day) and invite the public to share photos via #BLAW and use the interactive map to find participating locations.
