UK Guidance Lists 11 Places Blue Badge Holders Cannot Park

Officials reiterate that misuse is a criminal offence punishable by fines up to £1,000 with possible badge confiscation.

Overview

  • Prohibited locations include pedestrian crossings with zigzags, clearways and bus stop clearways in operation, school keep clear zones, and bus, tram or cycle lanes and tracks.
  • Drivers must also avoid places with loading bans marked on kerbs, resident or taxi-only bays, double white line stretches, red routes in operation, suspended bays, and areas under temporary restrictions.
  • The Government stresses the badge is not a licence to park anywhere and advises checking local signs because councils may set exemptions or additional limits.
  • Police, traffic wardens, parking attendants and civil enforcement officers can inspect and retain badges, and failure to show a badge on request can lead to a fine.
  • Permitted concessions include on-street meters, pay-and-display and disabled bays, and parking on yellow lines where safe and not subject to loading rules, with Scotland granting free, untimed use under these concessions.
