UK Government Weighs Grants and Loans for Solar Panel Installation

Proposals aim to reduce energy costs, boost clean energy adoption, and meet 2030 net zero targets.

The government is considering offering grants to low-income households and low-interest loans to wealthier ones to support solar panel and battery installation.
These measures are part of the Warm Homes Plan, which has allocated £3.4 billion over three years to improve energy efficiency in homes.
Plans may include increasing payments to households for unused energy sold back to the National Grid, which currently pays significantly below market rates.
The initiative is seen as critical to achieving the government’s clean energy goals, including 95% clean electricity by 2030 and 600,000 heat pump installations annually by 2028.
Final details of the program, including funding specifics, will be announced after the next spending review in June 2025.
