Overview

  • The strategy addresses a maintenance backlog of at least £49bn with £725bn committed over ten years to repair and rebuild schools, hospitals, courts and other facilities.
  • Annual funding allocates £6bn to hospital repairs, £3bn to schools and colleges, and £600m to courts and prisons as part of Labour’s national renewal agenda.
  • A £20bn School Rebuilding Programme will fund renovation of over 500 schools in England and identify a further 250 for future rebuilds.
  • The plan earmarks £1bn each year for roads, bridges and flyovers plus £590m to kick-start the Lower Thames Crossing project.
  • Around £16bn will capitalise a National Housing Bank to build 500,000 new homes and unlock more than £53bn in private investment.
