UK Government Retakes WASPI Compensation Decision, Launches 12-Week Review

WASPI says it will go back to court if the fresh ruling again denies compensation.

Overview

  • Pensions minister Torsten Bell told MPs that work is under way to reconsider last December’s decision on state pension age communications after new material came to light.
  • The Department for Work and Pensions will issue a fresh decision within 12 weeks, with an outcome indicated for February.
  • An out-of-court agreement halted a planned judicial review and includes a DWP contribution of £180,000 to WASPI’s legal costs.
  • The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman found maladministration in March 2024 and recommended compensation for affected 1950s-born women.
  • WASPI chair Angela Madden says the campaign is prepared to return to court if the retaken decision is unlawful.
