UK Government Doubles Support Fund for Tata Steel Workers and Businesses

An additional £15 million has been allocated to aid workers and businesses impacted by job losses at Tata Steel's Port Talbot plant in Wales.

The UK government has increased the support fund for workers and businesses affected by changes at Tata Steel's Port Talbot site to £30 million.
The new funding aims to assist supply chain businesses and workers as the plant transitions to greener steel production methods, which will reduce workforce needs.
Individual grants for businesses will now reach up to £250,000, supporting investments in equipment, property, and technology.
Nearly 40 businesses employing 2,000 people have already applied for funding, with grants expected to be distributed in early 2025.
The transition at Port Talbot includes replacing blast furnaces with electric arc furnaces, cutting carbon emissions by 85% and significantly reducing the UK's CO2 output.
