UK Government Backs 4.5GW Floating Wind Farms off Wales and South West England

Overview

  • The Crown Estate is partnering with Equinor and Gwynt Glas under UK Government backing to develop the floating wind farms in the Celtic Sea
  • Turbines up to 300 metres tall will deliver 4.5 gigawatts of renewable energy, enough to power more than four million homes by the mid-2030s
  • The Crown Estate will invest up to £400 million in port upgrades and supply chain infrastructure, with assembly hubs planned at Port Talbot and Bristol
  • The project is forecast to create around 5,300 jobs across Wales and the South West, with at least 3.5% of roles set aside for apprentices and 10% for 19-24 year-olds outside education
