UK Drivers Expected to Cover 1.5 Million Miles, Survey Finds

Commissioned for Honda’s Civic e:HEV launch, the OnePoll study highlights high lifetime mileage alongside cautious EV intent driven by cost, charger access and range concerns.

Overview

  • Polling of 2,000 motorists estimates an average lifetime total of more than 1.5 million miles, roughly 63 laps of Earth or three return trips to the moon.
  • Respondents typically pass the driving test on the second attempt, own five cars over their lifetime, and refuel about 1,360 times.
  • Drivers tend to replace vehicles every five years, with 21% keeping a car for at least a decade and price, comfort and brand loyalty leading purchase priorities.
  • Twenty-eight percent say they are likely to switch to an electric car within five years, with cost (72%), charging availability (54%) and range anxiety (53%) cited as the main barriers.
  • Honda used the research to promote the redesigned Civic e:HEV, staging a display of Civic models on London’s Harley Street to showcase the car’s evolution since 1972.
