UK Court Lets Chris Brown Return to US Under Stringent Bail Terms

A £5 million security remains to compel his return for hearings.

Overview

  • Judge Tony Baumgartner at Southwark Crown Court approved a bail variation on Tuesday allowing Chris Brown and co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu to travel back to the United States under “very stringent” conditions.
  • The £5 million security previously paid to the court stays in place as a financial guarantee and may be forfeited if any bail condition is breached.
  • Prosecutor Heidi Stonecliffe KC stressed that the arrangement is not unfettered, describing the revised terms as numerous and tightly controlled.
  • Both men pleaded not guilty; Brown faces charges including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon alleged to be a bottle, and attempted grievous bodily harm.
  • A case management hearing is set for 28 January 2026, and the trial is listed for October 2026 with the judge warning it can proceed in their absence if they fail to attend.
