UK Conservative MP Bob Stewart Found Guilty of Racially Aggravated Public Order Offence Against Bahraini Activist
MP Stewart fined £600 and costs totalling £1,435 after court determines "racial hostility" towards Bahraini activist during confrontation outside event hosted by Bahraini Embassy.
- UK Conservative MP Bob Stewart has been found guilty of racially abusing Bahraini activist Sayed Ahmed Alwadaei by telling him to 'go back to Bahrain' during a confrontation outside an event hosted by the Bahraini Embassy.
- The incident, which took place outside the Foreign Office’s Lancaster House in December last year, started when Alwadaei accused Stewart of selling himself to the Bahraini regime.
- Stewart, who denied the allegations of racial hostility, has been fined £600 with additional legal costs bringing the total to £1,435.
- Alwadaei, who claimed he was living in exile after being tortured in the Gulf state, felt 'dehumanised' and 'not welcomed in the UK' due to Stewart's remarks.
- The Metropolitan Police initiated an investigation into the matter after a complaint was filed by Alwadaei, a Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (BIRD) activist.
