UK Banks Double Down on Cash Bonuses to Win Switchers

They are leveraging the Current Account Switch Service to shore up deposits in a low-yield market.

Overview

  • All incentives rely on the free seven-working-day Current Account Switch Service to complete transfers and close old accounts.
  • Lloyds Bank has launched a £185 bonus for customers who switch to Club Lloyds or Premier accounts by July 28 and set up at least three direct debits.
  • NatWest is paying £125 into Select or Reward accounts for switchers who deposit £1,250 within 60 days and will add £50 for opening a Digital Regular Saver.
  • TSB’s Spend & Save and Spend & Save Plus accounts offer up to £190 in upfront cash and £120 in rewards for meeting spending and app-login requirements.
  • First Direct is offering a £175 switcher bonus and a 7% savings rate on up to £300 a month, while Zopa has replaced an upfront cash offer with a 7.1% savings rate, 2% current-account interest and cashback on bills.
