Overview
- Since February 2022, 2,209 branch closures have been announced across the UK, averaging about 49 per month.
- Twenty-four closures are scheduled in November, including 16 at Lloyds, with Halifax and Santander also shutting sites.
- Lloyds has announced the most closures to date at 460, followed by Barclays with 413, NatWest with 350 and Halifax with 347.
- By year-end 2025, 536 branches will have closed, with a further 72 already scheduled for 2026 and 49 more with dates to be confirmed.
- Mitigation measures continue to roll out, with LINK reporting 246 recommended replacement services and Cash Access UK citing almost 200 banking hubs, over 100 deposit services and two new hubs opening on average each week.
