Overview

  • The UK Government and Department for Transport have confirmed £1.75 billion of capital funding to advance the Midlands Rail Hub project.
  • The scheme will deliver over 20 million extra seats and support up to 300 additional daily trains linking Birmingham Moor Street and New Street with regional destinations.
  • Design work will concentrate on two new chords to connect Bordesley with Moor Street from the south-west/Wales corridor and the East Midlands.
  • Preparatory phases are under way for more than ten engineering interventions, including platform expansions at Moor Street and Snow Hill, viaduct widening and station upgrades.
  • The project is projected to create nearly 13,000 construction jobs, boost capacity at almost 50 stations and begin phased service rollouts in the early 2030s.
