UK Adults Embrace Digital Detox to Curb Smartphone Overuse
Survey data shows reduced screen time delivers better sleep, improved focus with mental health gains comparable to antidepressants

- 35% of UK adults have cut down or attempted to eliminate their smartphone use to address excessive daily screen time
- 13% have introduced digital-free zones in their homes and a further 39% say they plan to set aside tech-free areas
- One in four respondents report dedicated ‘quiet hobby’ spaces, most commonly reading nooks (48%), meditation areas (37%) and tables for games or puzzles (34%)
- 71% of those who reduced screen time say their mental health has improved, including better sleep (47%), feeling more present (45%) and increased calm (42%)
- Despite benefits, 30% say losing their phone would panic them most and 65% of those cite losing access to banking apps as their biggest fear
