UIDAI’s New Aadhaar Rules Take Effect With December 31 Deadline to Link PAN

Banks deploy simplified e-KYC to speed compliance before PAN deactivations begin on January 1, 2026.

Overview

  • From November 1, demographic details such as name, address, date of birth and mobile number can be updated online via the myAadhaar portal with cross-verification against government databases.
  • Biometric updates, including fingerprints, iris scans and photographs, must be completed in person at authorised Aadhaar centres.
  • Revised charges are now in force at Rs 75 for demographic changes and Rs 125 for biometric updates, while online document updates remain free until June 14, 2026.
  • Linking Aadhaar with PAN is mandatory by December 31, 2025, with non-linked PANs scheduled for deactivation starting January 1, 2026.
  • New PAN applicants require Aadhaar verification, and banks and financial institutions are using OTP and video-based KYC options to streamline verification.
