UIDAI Rolls Out Online Aadhaar Updates, Sets New Fees as Expert Panel Charts ‘Vision 2032’

The overhaul pairs a new online update system with an expert-led review to align Aadhaar with the DPDP Act and stronger cybersecurity.

Overview

  • Effective November 1, holders can initiate changes to name, address, date of birth and mobile number via the myAadhaar portal, while fingerprint, iris and photo updates still require in‑person visits.
  • UIDAI’s revised charges are Rs 75 for demographic updates and Rs 125 for biometric updates, with online document uploads free until June 14, 2026.
  • AadhaarPAN linkage is mandatory by December 31, 2025, with PANs set to be deactivated from January 1, 2026 if unlinked, and new PAN applicants must complete Aadhaar-based verification.
  • Banks and other financial firms can use streamlined digital KYC through video verification, Aadhaar OTP authentication or optional in‑person checks.
  • A high‑level Expert Committee chaired by UIDAI’s Neelkanth Mishra will draft the Aadhaar Vision 2032 to upgrade architecture using AI, blockchain, quantum technologies and advanced encryption in line with global privacy and security standards.
