Overview
- UIDAI unveiled the Face Authentication SDK and an Aadhaar sandbox at the Global Fintech Fest, which were announced on Wednesday and let developers build and test Aadhaar face checks inside native Android and iOS apps.
- The SDK removes the old app-switch flow by embedding face authentication in partner apps and adds AI-driven liveness and anti-spoofing checks to stop manipulated images, masks and deepfakes.
- Banks and other partners will be able to run Aadhaar verification on their own servers under the new model, which shifts responsibility for local security to those partners and is being offered as a way to manage risks from removing strict geofencing.
- UIDAI says it is preparing its infrastructure to grow from about 100 million daily authentications to roughly 250–300 million and is building a 10-year roadmap that includes post-quantum cryptography, zero-trust designs and expanded AI fraud detection.
- The authority is running proof-of-concept work on international interoperability, drafting rules for OCIs/NRIs access and developing a lighter 'Aadhaar Light' for small merchants while using the sandbox and a developer playbook to speed safe onboarding.
