UIDAI Raises Aadhaar Update Fees, Waives First Child Biometric Charge for One Year

Effective October 1, the policy links revised charges to a temporary waiver intended to speed up required updates for children.

Overview

  • The revised fee schedule took effect on October 1, 2025, and runs through September 30, 2028, marking the first major change in nearly five years.
  • Demographic updates now cost Rs 75 whether done online or at a centre, adult biometric updates cost Rs 125, and Aadhaar reprints cost Rs 40.
  • UIDAI has waived charges for the first Mandatory Biometric Update from October 1 for one year, making required updates effectively free for children aged 5 to 17.
  • The waiver is reported to benefit around six crore children, and parents and guardians are being urged to complete updates promptly.
  • Under existing rules, Aadhaar may be deactivated if a child’s update is not done after age seven, and residents are encouraged to use the MyAadhaar portal or opt for paid home-enrolment services where needed.
