UIDAI Partners With Behavioural Insights Firm To Boost Aadhaar Biometric Updates for Children

A yearlong fee waiver for 7–15-year-olds is now in place to make on-time updates easier and protect access to benefits.

Overview

  • UIDAI signed an MoU with Behavioural Insights Limited to raise uptake of the Mandatory Biometric Update among children.
  • The collaboration will design, test, and implement tailored interventions to tackle behavioural, logistical, and awareness barriers to updates due at ages 5 and 15.
  • All MBU charges for the 7–15 age group are waived from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026, a move expected to benefit about six crore children.
  • Planned approaches include clearer reminders, simpler instructions, and easier access to enrolment centres, with specific pilots to be developed following the agreement.
  • The MoU was signed by Tanusree Deb Barma of UIDAI and Ravi Gurumurthy of BIT in the presence of UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar, and parents can complete updates at authorised centres listed on the Bhuvan Aadhaar portal.
