- UIDAI has begun sending SMS reminders to mobile numbers registered in children’s Aadhaar profiles to prompt the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) exercise
- The MBU requires fresh fingerprints, iris scans and photographs and is free of charge when completed between ages five and seven
- Aadhaar numbers that miss the update deadline may be deactivated under existing rules and can only be reactivated after age seven with a Rs 100 fee
- The Department of Posts and UIDAI will deploy special biometric update camps in Telangana intermediate colleges to serve 15- to 17-year-olds
