Overview
- Effective Oct. 1, 2025, UIDAI waived charges for Mandatory Biometric Updates for children aged 7–15, making MBUs effectively free for all children 5–17 during the waiver period.
- The measure is expected to benefit about six crore children, with authorities urging parents to complete updates on priority.
- Under existing rules, children must update biometrics at ages five and again around 15, and failure to complete the update after seven can lead to Aadhaar deactivation.
- A revised fee schedule now in force through Sept. 30, 2028, sets Rs 75 for demographic and document updates, Rs 125 for most biometric updates, Rs 40 for Aadhaar reprints, and Rs 700 for home enrolment (Rs 350 for each additional resident), while Aadhaar generation remains free.
- Document updates on the MyAadhaar portal remain free until June 14, 2026, and demographic changes done together with a biometric update incur no extra charge.
