UIDAI Launches Paperless Offline Aadhaar e-KYC Without Biometrics or OTPs

Initial rollout through UIDAI portals will be followed by mobile app, SMS, service centre access

Overview

  • The paperless offline e-KYC system removes the need to share Aadhaar numbers, personal details, biometric scans or one-time passwords
  • Users can download their digitally signed e-KYC file from the UIDAI resident portal and protect it with a share phrase to control access
  • Only a masked reference ID and user-selected data fields are shared, allowing agencies to verify identity without exposing full Aadhaar information
  • Verifying agencies confirm the file’s authenticity through UIDAI’s digital signature and may use optional OTP or facial authentication for added security
  • UIDAI will promote QR code and PDF formats alongside XML and expand retrieval options to the mAadhaar app, SMS channels and Aadhaar Seva Kendras
