Overview
- The Aadhaar app is live on Google Play and the Apple App Store, bringing residents a smartphone-based version of their ID.
- Setup requires an OTP to the Aadhaar-registered mobile number and mandatory face authentication, after which users set a PIN and can enable a biometric lock.
- Household management supports up to five profiles linked to the same mobile number, with only one profile active per device and automatic deactivation on the old device when moved.
- Privacy controls include selective data sharing, masked identifiers, and QR or verifiable-credential checks; an activity log records where and when Aadhaar was used, and limited features work offline after initial setup.
- The release does not replace mAadhaar, which remains necessary for e-Aadhaar PDFs, PVC card orders, virtual IDs, and certain update workflows.
