Overview
- UIDAI and MeitY said the special drive has delivered more than 2 crore Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBU) for schoolchildren by running camps in about 1.56 lakh schools, a milestone reported on Tuesday.
- The exercise used a technical linkage with the UDISE+ school database to identify students due for MBUs and bring enrolment kits into classrooms rather than rely solely on public enrolment centres.
- UIDAI temporarily waived MBU fees so updates for children aged 5–17 are free until September 30, 2026, a move intended to boost uptake and ease future Aadhaar authentication.
- Local officials reported many updates still pending, for example NTR district officials said roughly 68,654 child MBUs remained to be done there, and district teams have been ordered to monitor and set up permanent enrolment centres.
- Independent reporting has flagged unresolved issues — no publicly available parental-consent form, no disclosed legal instrument authorising the UDISE+ linkage, unclear local data-retention and security practices, and the DPDP child-data safeguards were not yet fully operative at the time of the camps.
