UGT Plans Nationwide Ground Handling Strikes at Ryanair and Menzies

Mediation at SIMA has stalled as workers demand pay and scheduling reforms after alleging repeated contract breaches

Overview

  • From August 15 through December 31, UGT will halt Azul Handling operations at 27 airports in defined morning, midday and evening slots
  • Six full-day walkouts at Menzies are scheduled for August 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31 across all Spanish airports it serves
  • The union accuses both providers of payroll errors, unpaid salary progressions, abusive split shifts and enforced vacation rules in violation of labor pacts
  • UGT warns overlapping stoppages could slow boarding, delay or cancel up to a third of flights at Barcelona–El Prat and disrupt thousands of summer travelers
  • SIMA-mediated talks have yielded no settlement and, while Ryanair foresees no interruptions, providers are activating contingency plans
