Overview
- UGT initiated an indefinite strike at Azul Handling, Ryanair’s Spanish ground services arm, beginning with a three-day stoppage on August 15-17 and recurring every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday through December 31.
- The stoppages will affect baggage handling, cleaning, catering and other ground operations across 13 airports in three daily time slots: 5:00-9:00, 12:00-15:00 and 21:00-23:59.
- UGT has sought mediation from the Servicio Interconfederal de Mediación y Arbitraje and accuses Azul Handling of imposing coercive extra hours, failing to consolidate part-time shifts and enforcing disproportionate sanctions.
- The initial strike coincides with the August 15 national holiday, one of Spain’s highest-traffic travel days, which could lead to flight delays or cancellations.
- Ryanair maintains it does not expect any operational disruptions to its flights despite the planned ground staff walkouts.
