UGC Bans Online and Distance Courses in Allied Healthcare From July–August 2025

The regulator cites patient safety alongside a need for hands-on training to justify ending remote delivery of NCAHP-listed disciplines.

Overview

  • The University Grants Commission will withdraw any recognition granted for offering NCAHP-covered programmes via ODL or online for the 2025 session and beyond.
  • Higher education institutions have been told not to admit new students to these streams starting in the upcoming academic session.
  • The order covers all disciplines defined under the NCAHP Act, including psychology, microbiology, biotechnology, food and nutrition science, clinical nutrition and dietetics.
  • For programmes with multiple specialisations, only those falling under the NCAHP Act will be withdrawn, with non-health specialisations continuing.
  • The move follows an April 2025 DEB Working Group recommendation, later formalised by the UGC commission, and aligns with UGC rules that bar practical professional courses from remote delivery.
