UGA Student Charged After Man in High-School Jersey Attacks Runner

Investigators say witnesses dispute the suspect's claim that the incident was a prank and they are asking the public for tips as they probe motive.

Overview

  • Police say the attack took place during a Coweta County high-school cross-country race on Saturday when a man wearing an East Coweta jersey emerged from the woods and struck a runner.
  • Authorities identified the suspect as 19-year-old Aiden Dombrowski, a University of Georgia student and former Northgate High School runner who police say drove from Athens and slept in his car before the meet.
  • Witnesses told officers the man carried rocks, pushed and then struck the runner, and the victim fought back, leaving Dombrowski with a cut above his right eye that was treated at the scene.
  • Body-camera footage shows Dombrowski turning himself in at a nearby parking lot after changing clothes, and he was booked into Coweta County Jail on a battery charge.
  • Police have not established a motive or any prior history between the suspect and the victim and are urging anyone with information to contact Sgt. Bradley Wilcox as officials review witness statements and physical evidence.
