UFC Books Dern–Jandiroba Rematch for Vacant Strawweight Title at UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi
Zhang Weili’s move to flyweight opened the 115-pound throne, creating a timely rematch to crown a new champion.
Overview
- UFC CEO Dana White announced Mackenzie Dern vs. Virna Jandiroba for the vacant 115-pound title at UFC 321 on Oct. 25 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
- The title is vacant because longtime champion Zhang Weili stepped up to flyweight to challenge Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 322 on Nov. 15 in New York.
- This will be a rematch of their December 2020 bout, which Dern won by unanimous decision over three rounds.
- Jandiroba is 6-1 since their first meeting with an active five-fight win streak, most recently defeating former title challenger Yan Xiaonan at UFC 314.
- Dern has won two straight, beating Loopy Godinez and submitting Amanda Ribas in January, while UFC 321 is headlined by Tom Aspinall vs. Ciryl Gane and includes Umar Nurmagomedov vs. Mario Bautista.
