UEFA Super Cup Free-TV Deal Falls Through After UC3 Withholds Approval

ProSiebenSat.1 has replaced the scheduled free-to-air match with entertainment programming following UC3’s refusal to approve the sublicensing.

Overview

  • The UC3 rights body declined to approve the July 22 sublicensing agreement between DAZN and ProSiebenSat.1, blocking free-to-air coverage of the Super Cup.
  • On August 8, ProSiebenSat.1 cited “licensing reasons” unrelated to its relationship with DAZN when announcing it could not broadcast the match.
  • ProSiebenSat.1 will air the rate show “Wer isses?” at 20:15 CEST on August 13 in place of the game.
  • DAZN confirmed it will carry the UEFA Super Cup exclusively on its subscription platform and declined to comment on the failed free-TV deal.
  • The match between Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur kicks off at Udine’s Stadio Friuli on August 13 and now requires a DAZN subscription to view.
