UEFA Bans Legia Warsaw Fans from Five Away Games, Fines Club €100,000
The sanctions follow violent incidents at a game against Aston Villa, which resulted in injuries to four police officers and damage to the stadium.
- UEFA has banned Legia Warsaw from selling tickets to away supporters for their next five European competition matches following violent incidents at their game against Aston Villa.
- Legia Warsaw has also been fined €100,000 (£86,196) for crowd disturbances, acts of damage, throwing of objects and lighting of fireworks.
- Four police officers were injured during the clashes with Legia fans, and one officer required hospital treatment for burns caused by a flare.
- Legia Warsaw has been ordered to contact Aston Villa within 30 days to arrange payment for the damages caused by their supporters, including broken high fences and a lighting pole.
- Despite calls from the UK's head of football policing for Legia Warsaw to be thrown out of the tournament, UEFA has stopped short of this sanction.
