Udo Jürgens' Personal Collection Auctioned for €1.7 Million
Sotheby’s sale of the late musician’s memorabilia far exceeded expectations, with proceeds benefiting his children and a charitable foundation.
- The auction, held by Sotheby’s from January 23 to 30, featured 99 items from Udo Jürgens’ estate and generated €1.7 million, significantly surpassing the initial estimate of €370,000 to €500,000.
- A custom Plexiglas concert grand piano, famously used by Jürgens during numerous performances, sold for €240,000, the highest bid of the auction.
- Other notable items included a Hans Arp sculpture (€192,000), a Gustav Klimt watercolor (€168,000), and Jürgens’ 2007 Bentley Continental GTC (€132,000).
- Unexpectedly, a bathrobe signed by Germany’s 2014 World Cup-winning team fetched €26,400, over 176 times its original estimate of €150.
- Proceeds will be distributed to Jürgens’ children, John and Jenny, with a portion allocated to the Udo Jürgens Foundation, which supports young musicians and children in need.
