UConn freshman Jana El Alfy to miss 2023-24 season with torn Achilles

Egyptian forward Jana El Alfy suffered a torn Achilles tendon while playing for Egypt in the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup.
El Alfy will undergo surgery at UConn Health and miss the entire 2023-24 season.
This is the third major injury for the UConn women's basketball program in the past year, following those of Paige Bueckers and Ice Brady.
El Alfy was expected to play a significant role in UConn's frontcourt rotation after leading scorers at the U19 World Cup.
The injury represents another setback for a UConn program that has dealt with numerous injuries recently.
