Overview

  • The UCI confirmed Friday that SafeR devices will be fitted under saddles for every rider at the Kigali championships from 21–28 September.
  • The trackers provide live position and speed data for the entire peloton, flagging sudden stops to prompt rapid response on course.
  • UCI President David Lappartient described the rollout as important and necessary progress for rider safety.
  • The technology was piloted over three stages at the Tour de Romandie Féminin in August, where five teams were disqualified after refusing tests.
  • Kigali hosts the Worlds for the first time in Africa, and the event’s long-standing ban on rider–team radio communications remains in effect.
