UCF Defeats FIU 85-62 in Season Opener with Sellers Scoring 23 Points

Victorious UCF Knights, newly part of the Big 12 conference, showcase their skills as they outscore FIU 46-26 in the paint and 20-5 in second-chance points.

• Jaylin Sellers, who played for Ball State in the past two years, led the win with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 8 successful shots out of 15.
• UCF newcomer, Shemarri Allen, who transferred from UMKC, added eight points, five rebounds, and five assists to the game.
• Darius Johnson contributed significantly to the victory with 15 points, including a three-pointer 16 seconds before halftime to top off UCF's 7-0 period-ending spurt.
• The Panthers struggled against UCF's defense, committing 24 turnovers and achieving only 36.2 percent total shooting and 22.2 percent from the 3-point range.
• UCF showcased their control of the game, leading 43-21 at halftime and going ahead 53-23 within the first 3:49 of the second half, consequently FIU was unable to narrow the gap to less than 19 points.
