Overview

  • The $80 million grant from NCATS at NIH marks ACTRI’s fourth consecutive Clinical and Translational Science Award and spans seven years under UM1TR005449 and K12TR005441 funding mechanisms.
  • Four new partners—Eisenhower Health, Rady Children’s Hospital, the VA San Diego Healthcare System and El Centro Regional Medical Center—join ACTRI’s existing Mesa College, Salk Institute, La Jolla Institute and Sanford Burnham Prebys network.
  • Funding will upgrade shared core facilities such as a tightly controlled research pharmacy and support delivery of opioid withdrawal medications to tribal health systems.
  • Workforce development will expand through the ACTRI K12 mentored fellowship, the CADRE community college program, and new bootcamps and leadership academies for early-career researchers.
  • The renewal arrives against a backdrop of federal debates over DEI program funding and court challenges to caps on indirect-cost reimbursements for research institutions.
