Overview
- UC San Diego accepted a WCC invitation for most teams starting July 1, 2027, aligning competition with the 2027–28 academic year.
- The addition restores the league to 10 members for 2027–28 as Seattle joins and Gonzaga moves to the Pac-12 in 2026.
- UCSD becomes the WCC’s first public institution since Nevada-Reno left in 1979, adding a major San Diego market presence.
- The Tritons will compete in 14 of the WCC’s 16 sponsored sports, including men’s and women’s basketball, soccer, volleyball, baseball and softball.
- UCSD sponsors 24 sports and will seek conference homes for roughly 10 programs outside the WCC, following a 2024 Division I transition that featured NCAA bids for both basketball teams.
