Overview
- UC San Diego accepted an invitation to place most teams in the WCC starting July 1, 2027, competing in 14 of the league’s 16 sponsored sports.
- The membership change will give the WCC 10 schools in 2027–28 as the league adjusts after Gonzaga’s move to the Pac-12 and Seattle’s recent addition.
- UCSD sponsors 24 sports overall and will seek conference affiliations for the 10 programs not covered by WCC sponsorship.
- The Tritons finished their Division I transition in 2024 and reached the NCAA tournaments in both men’s and women’s basketball in their first eligible season.
- UCSD becomes the WCC’s first public member since Nevada-Reno departed in 1979, expanding the conference’s California-heavy footprint.
