UC Irvine Finalizes OCMA Takeover, Renames It UCI Langson Orange County Museum of Art

The move creates one institution focused on a unified collection with free admission guaranteed for ten years.

Overview

  • OCMA is being integrated into UCI’s Jack and Shanaz Langson Institute and Museum of California Art as operations transition under university control.
  • The combined holdings will bring together roughly 4,500 OCMA works with about 9,000 pieces from the Irvine Museum Collection and the Gerald Buck Collection.
  • All OCMA staff are now UC Irvine employees, and a national search is underway for an executive director following Heidi Zuckerman’s planned departure.
  • UCI assumes oversight of the 53,000-square-foot, $98 million facility at the Segerstrom Center in Costa Mesa, which opened in 2022.
  • No money is expected to change hands, previously scheduled programming continues through 2026, and a transitional website and other operational changes will roll out over the next year.
