Ubisoft’s Tencent-Backed Vantage Studios Begins Operations to Lead Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six

The launch marks Ubisoft’s move to semi-autonomous “creative houses” to give teams more control, shortening the path from player feedback to updates.

Overview

  • Vantage Studios is now officially responsible for the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six franchises as the first of Ubisoft’s planned creative houses.
  • The subsidiary is led by co-CEOs Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot, with final creative and business decisions resting with them rather than Tencent.
  • Tencent holds a 25% stake following a roughly €1.16 billion investment and serves in an advisory role, while Ubisoft retains overarching control.
  • About 2,300 staff from Ubisoft teams in Montréal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona and Sofia have been consolidated under the Vantage banner, a name employees selected by vote.
  • Ubisoft says Vantage’s initial focus includes raising the quality of narrative single-player experiences, expanding multiplayer with more frequent content, adding free-to-play touchpoints and integrating stronger social features.
