Ubisoft Launches Tencent-Backed Vantage Studios to Steer Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six

The unit begins operations with 2,300 developers under co-CEOs Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot, with Tencent holding a 25% advisory stake.

Overview

  • Vantage Studios formally starts work today, consolidating teams across Montréal, Quebec City, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona and Sofia.
  • Tencent invested roughly €1.16 billion for a 25% minority position and will advise, while final creative and business decisions remain with Vantage leadership and Ubisoft.
  • About 2,300 staff will manage development and expansion of the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six franchises under the new structure.
  • Ubisoft positions Vantage as the first in a series of 'creative houses' designed to decentralize decision-making and speed up responses to player feedback.
  • Stated goals include raising the quality of narrative single-player experiences, expanding multiplayer and live-service cadence, adding free-to-play entry points and integrating more social features.
