Ubisoft Cancels Six Games, Delays Seven in Sweeping Corporate Reset

The publisher is shifting to five genre-focused Creative Houses to concentrate on open-world adventures with a stronger push into GaaS-native experiences.

Overview

  • The cuts include the long-troubled Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, with the team saying it could not meet the new quality bar without excessive time and investment.
  • Seven titles are being pushed back for additional development, including one unannounced game moving from fiscal 2026 to fiscal 2027, with reports suggesting the unconfirmed Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake may be among the delays.
  • Two studios—Halifax and Stockholm—are closed, additional restructurings are underway at Abu Dhabi, RedLynx and Massive, and most staff will return to the office five days a week with limited remote days.
  • Ubisoft is reorganizing into five Creative Houses covering pillars such as competitive shooters, live experiences, and narrative fantasy worlds, with Vantage Studios steering Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six.
  • Management revised near-term guidance, citing materially lower net bookings and an expected operating loss of around €1 billion for 2025–26, alongside a new €200 million fixed-cost reduction target over two years.
