Uber to Offer Blade Helicopter and Seaplane Bookings as Soon as 2026 Through Joby

Joby’s purchase of Blade creates an Uber-facing bridge to urban air mobility pending FAA approval of its quieter electric air taxis.

Overview

  • Uber will surface Blade’s helicopter and seaplane routes in the app as early as 2026, including Manhattan links to JFK, Newark and the Hamptons as well as French Riviera destinations.
  • The integration follows Joby’s August acquisition of Blade’s passenger business for up to $125 million, while Blade’s organ-transport unit remained a separate company now called Strata Critical Medical.
  • Initial bookings will use Blade’s conventional aircraft and terminals, with Joby aiming to substitute its piloted four-passenger eVTOLs once type certification is secured.
  • The companies have not disclosed pricing, exact launch markets or a firm rollout date; Blade flew more than 50,000 passengers in 2024 on the targeted routes.
  • Joby and Uber have partnered since 2019, including Joby’s 2020 purchase of Uber Elevate, and Joby is targeting commercial launches in Dubai, New York, Los Angeles, the U.K. and Japan.
