Overview

  • Uber’s "Courier" service is now available via the Uber app in nine German cities, including Berlin, Köln, München, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Hannover, Stuttgart and Mannheim.
  • The same feature debuted in the UK last week, leveraging a unified in-app booking and tracking interface across markets.
  • Deliveries are carried out by bicycle or car through Uber’s existing partner network, with upfront fare estimates based on travel time or distance.
  • Each package is limited to 20 kilograms and orders must fit within a mid-size car trunk, with total loads capped at 60 kilograms.
  • Germany-head Christoph Weigler says the service targets individual users and small businesses, yet taxi guilds and unions continue to criticise Uber’s labour practices despite last year’s integration of thousands of taxi drivers into its app.
